Lit Lounge

This grungy. unpretentious two-tiered East Village lounge with the dark but fiery red atmosphere absolutely prides itself on providing a judgement-free communal hangout for artists of all types and walks of life.  Upstairs there is a 35-foot long fully stocked bar with a lounge and bustling dance space manned by some of the hottest d.j's around.  Downstairs in the basement grotto, the live music happens seven nights a week with an interesting mix of indie bands that  jam from 9 PM to Midnight, Monday thru Saturday.  Also experiences worth having...The Sunday night "Punk Karaoke" and a peek at the special evenings of sexy Burlesque.  Daily Drink Specials include a Happy Hour that runs from 5-8 PM daily, offering $3 drinks of varying sorts.

Lit is still burning strong
Lit started hip during its inception in 2002, and although the fan fare of this place where actresses and rockers collided on the dance floor has since died down, Lit has managed to stay popular and mostly true to its core philosophy of providing an energetic, eclectic and nonjudgmental, somewhat anti-establishment mangy commune for artists, actors, painters, writers, rockers and intelligentsia alike. And yes, some wanna-be's have infiltrated over the years, but mostly, its the real deal and you can go there and be you and not feel sneeringly leered at for dare I say it, being different. Drinks are a good value for the cheap price as they are pretty strong overall. There is a fully stocked bar and a decent area for dancing (and people do!) and lounging upstairs, and a mangy cave-like underground of great live music happening downstairs six days a week.
