The Old Station of Zichron was first built by the turkish and rebuilt by the british in 1946; today is reopened as an exciting new coffee shop and nursery. The menu offers healthy and organic food which is based on local ingredients as much as possible. Workshops are also available teaching people about ecology, organic gardening, green building, recycling etc.
In 2009, Graham Eskin, a landscape designer and gardener from Australia discovered the old abandoned train station of Zichron and saw the potential to establish a small mashtella and ecological centre. After many months of hard work and negotiations with the relevant authorities, Graham began to re-establish the old gardens using ecological plants and gardening techniques. Together with Gershon Richie, an ecological builder based in Benyamina, they began renovations on the interior as well exterior. 2 years on, the station is now breathing a new life as a working organic mashtella, garden centre and organic cafe. The old building, the beautiful gardens, the passing trains, flowers, the colours and smells, all merging together creating a special atmosphere.
The old station provides exciting workshops for children and adults, teaching art and crafts using recycled materials, methods of ecological gardening, composting and vegetable/herb growing.
Come and visit us and experience the magic of the place.
Open from 9.30 Sunday – Friday.
