Drink Alcohol? You’re Going to Need a Vitamin B12 Injection!

Drink Alcohol? You’re Going to Need a Vitamin B12 Injection!

Alcohol often gets a bad rap. In some cases, it’s well deserved. If we drink too much, we do stupid things – and our body suffers quite a bit.

But not all alcohol consumption is bad. Most people won’t go running through the streets naked after drinking a single glass of wine. Your liver won’t shrivel up and die if you drink a beer at the ball game.

While its true alcohol isn’t as terrible as some people make it out to be, it is wise to take a few precautions. Just like you plan ahead and arrange for a designated driver, you must also make arrangements to keep your health in check.

One of the best things recreational drinkers can do is use vitamin B12 injections.

What is Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient. It is part of the B vitamin complex (along with several other nutrients). Like all essential vitamins, B12 plays an important role in your health.

Among other things, vitamin B12 is responsible for making DNA. It also keeps your nerve and blood cells healthy and functioning at optimal levels. The health of your brain and nervous system is kept on the straight and narrow by this nutrient. And vitamin B12 helps regulate your metabolism and keep your energy levels up.

Who Cares About Vitamins?!

Most of us don’t worry too much about vitamins and minerals. We eat enough food (sometimes even healthy food) to keep your bodies moving. However, it is essential to think about our health on occasion.

Most of us are aware that alcoholics suffer from some pretty serious health issues. But did you know recreational drinkers are damaging their body too? Usually the damage is more severe than you know.

If you let your vitamin B12 levels dip too low, you’ll experience a vitamin deficiency. With this deficiency comes severe and irreversible damage to the brain and nervous system. Sounds fun, right?! Even if you catch the problem before it becomes too severe, you’ll still be at risk for fatigue, memory loss, depression, cold sores, anemia, mania and even psychosis!

Alcohol and Vitamin B12

Studies show that increasing alcohol consumption just a little bit – from 0 to 30 grams per day – can have a significant impact. Drinking those two beers leads to a 5% decrease in vitamin B12 concentration.

Why does this happen? There are a few reasons. First, alcohol interferes with the body’s ability to absorb the nutrient. Even if you are throwing back five hamburgers a day, those few drinks will negate all the nutrients found in the ground beef.

Also, alcohol has some wicked effects on the liver. Since more than half of the body’s B12 storehouse is found in the liver, damage to that organ is pretty detrimental.

Lastly, vitamin B12 is responsible, in part, for providing the body with the energy we need to function. Even a slight hangover will seem a million times worse if we don’t have the energy to get out of bed in the morning.

Are Injections Really Necessary?!

There are several ways to supplement vitamin B12 levels – but B12 injections are the best. Oral pills have to be absorbed by the digestive system. Since there is alcohol in your belly that interferes with that process, it is best to avoid it all together.

Amino Pharmaceuticals provides vitamin B12 injections that go directly into the bloodstream. That means you get a full dose of the nutrient. And you don’t have to worry about how the alcohol will interact with an oral pill.

And it isn’t as bad as it sounds. You probably only need a vitamin B12 injection one or two times per month. Once you get your levels back up to normal, you only have to worry about maintaining that healthy level. It’s not like you’ll be poking yourself every day!

Again, alcohol isn’t nearly as bad as everyone says it is. As long as you take the necessary precautions, there is no reason why you can’t have your favorite adult beverage and still have a totally healthy life!
