Rivertown Brewing Company receives official TTB approval for Monroe, Ohio location

[Press Release:]

(Monroe, OH) – Rivertown Brewing Company received official approval of its Monroe Brewer’s Notice from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau on Monday, October 24 – a key piece of the puzzle as completion of the 25,875 square foot building is still on track with original projections for late 2016 and a grand opening celebration after the holiday season.

The brewery, currently operating in Lockland, Ohio, announced that it was building a second facility from the ground up in the fall of 2015. The Monroe facility, located at 6550 Hamilton Lebanon Road, will host the bulk of Rivertown’s production for distribution to seven states, their sour beer program, laboratory, business offices, 30-tap bar and BBQ restaurant complete with a patio and two-acre beer garden. A number of new 200 bbl and 100 bbl fermenters as well as a custom-built Italian 50 bbl fouder are set to be delivered to Monroe in early November.

As the building continues to take shape, so does the team that will be responsible for managing its 350+ guests . Rivertown recently welcomed Rob McCleery as the Director of Exception ExBEERience in Monroe. McCleery comes with over 20 years of management experience for restaurants such as Abuelo’s, Max and Erma’s and Logan’s Roadhouse. Rivertown will be hosting a job fair in the upcoming weeks to continue growing the front of house team.

About Rivertown Brewing Company: Founded in 2009, Rivertown Brewing Company is handcrafting a tenacious culture of purpose and excellence which results in consistent, remarkable liquids of the sour and non-sour variety. Part brewery, lab exBEERiment, gathering place, smokehouse and arcade, Rivertown places research, innovation, quality and customer exBEERience at the core of its processes.

7 Craft Beers as Mouthwatering as Halloween Candy

7 Craft Beers as Mouthwatering as Halloween Candy

Okay, so we’re all grown up now, and as we age, the holidays become more and more about the children. Christmas. Easter. Thanksgiving. It’s all about teaching them tradition, making them smile and believe in something larger than themselves. It’s about family, and about spending time together.

Thank goodness for Halloween. On the surface, this renegade holiday also seems to be for the kids, but I’ll tell you, costume parties only get better with age, and it’s the only day of the year when kids provide for their parents — those cute little ballerinas and spooky ghosts bringing home a week’s worth of loot. Is there a better tradition than “inspecting” the candy after the kids have gone to bed? You know, for razor blades and stuff.

(RECIPE: Beer-Soaked Grilled Cheese)

Seriously, though, one of my favorite parts of Halloween is receiving trick-or-treaters. It’s fun to see all the different costumes come to the door. And each year, we cook up something in a crock pot and hang out, drink some beers, eat some candy. Which got me thinking for this year — what if we drank beers that tasted like candy?

So I put together a list for my friends, beers we could find at the local bottle shop. Some fall under the category of rich and sweet like candy; the type you’d probably have just one of before moving on to something else. The others carry strong, smooth, savory flavor profiles, like chocolate cake, that satisfy the sweet tooth while maintaining drinkability. Depending on your palate, most might fall somewhere in between.

Second release in history-inspired Smugglers’ Series from the Isle of Arran Distillery

Taking the Arran Waters:

Second release in history-inspired Smugglers’ Series from the Isle of Arran Distillery

Now in its 21st year, the award-winning Isle of Arran Distillery continues to celebrate the whisky-making heritage of its island home with the highly-anticipated second release in its Smugglers’ Series.

The Smugglers Series’ honours the tradition of the illicit whisky trade that operated from Arran and up the Clyde to Glasgow. Each release is ‘smuggled’ in unique packaging reminiscent of the hiding places used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Smugglers’ Series Vol. 2 ‘The High Seas’ is presented in packaging that mimics a beautiful hardbound book, complete with a cut-out compartment that conceals the bottle.

This dram is a powerful marriage of whisky matured in the finest rum casks with time-honoured peated spirit and a rich layer of first-fill Bourbon barrel adding sweetness and fruit.

Whisky News From K&L – Whisky News

Whisky News From K&L – Whisky News
kl_logo_trans
KL-emailheader

Hello again everyone! Another busy week in the spirits department has yielded another bountiful series of deliveries, bursting with more exciting whiskies to tell you about today. We’ve got more fun stuff from Islay, another single cask of ancient grain whisky, and some fun events to talk about as well. Let’s not waste any time!

MORE LAPHROAIG CAIRDEAS (NO LIMITS NOW) AND MORE BOWMORE DEVIL’S CASK

If you’ve never watched Laphroaig’s head distiller John Campbell shovel peat into the distillery’s kiln, it’s a beautiful thing. As is the new Laphroaig Cairdeas, the 2016 special release from the Islay stalwart finished in Madeira casks. We had to limit customers to one bottle last week, but this time around we’ve got enough for everyone so the limits are off! Get yourself some smoky Laphroaig goodness to prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

Laphroaig 2016 “Cairdeas” Madeira Cask Islay Single Malt Whisky (750ml) $79.99 Each year Laphroaig’s Master Distiller, John Campbell, handcrafts a limited edition malt to celebrate friendship (“Cairdeas” in Gaelic). The 2016 bottling features fully-matured Laphroaig aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being blended together for a second maturation in Madeira seasoned traditional hogsheads. The result is a classically smoky Laphroaig with accents of sweet fruits and honey around the edges. Bottled at 51.6%, the extra kick helps balance out the additional richness. If one bottle of deliciously-limited Islay whisky isn’t enough for you, then you should grab a bottle of the Bowmore Devil’s Cask. Not only is it extra peaty, it’s extra sherried! We sold out quickly last time around, but we managed to snag an extra serving of batch three today. This is for fans of the Aberlour “Abunad’h” whisky who want a bit of smoke to go with all that high-proof sherry action.

Mark’s Whisky Ramblings 146: Auchentoshan 24 Year Old 1991 Asta Morris

Mark Dermul, Belgian Whisky blogger, tries another of his favorites. The Belgian bottler Asta Morris found a beautiful single sherry cask of his favorite Lowlander. The Auchentoshan spirit went to sleep in 1991 and was bottled at the age of 24 years, cut to a drinking strength of 50%. Meant for the Japanese company Gaia Flow, Mark feels lucky to have been able to secure a few bottles. It is a grand Auchentoshan!

Announcing Share This: Mole from The Bruery

Announcing Share This: Mole from The Bruery

We looked to the culinary world to provide us with inspiration for the next part of our collaborative and charitable Share This® beer series. Being based in Southern California, we are very fortunate to have some of the best Mexican cuisine in the world. By channeling that local influence and considering all of the high-quality ingredients we could find, Mexico was an easy choice to be the next region. To help us develop an authentic flavor profile we worked with Chef Anne Conness, herself a Certified Cicerone®. After a lot of hard work (and some delicious tamale pie), our newest creation was born:

Share This®: Mole – An Imperial Stout with ancho chilies, chipotle peppers, cinnamon, vanilla and cacao nibs.

Cacao nibs work in unison with our already chocolatey imperial stout to form a savory base perfect to layer flavors upon. A blend of ancho chilies and chipotle peppers provide smoke and a subtle heat character that doesn’t overpower the many nuances that mole sauce is known for. The recipe comes to a decadent conclusion with an ample dosing of fresh vanilla and cinnamon.

If you are unfamiliar with our line of imperial stouts treated with special ingredients, giving back to the impoverished areas that so many beer adjuncts come from is our mission. To accomplish this goal, we donate one dollar for every bottle produced in the Share This series to a charity that will focus its efforts on the region from which we sourced our ingredients.

To debut the series back in June, we teamed up with San Diego-based Mostra Coffee to createShare This®: Coffee. Mostra used their sourcing prowess to provide us with very limited Bourbon & Catamor variety coffee beans from the Cagat Family Farm of the highlands of Mindanao Island in the Philippines. Next, we needed to find a partner that could put the donation money to the best use possible. Free Wheelchair Mission fit the bill with a resume boasting 900,000 wheelchair donations to people in impoverished regions who could not afford one. When all was said and done, we were thrilled to learn from Free Wheelchair Mission that the proceeds from Share This: Coffee provided the gift of mobility to 550 people in the Philippines. To learn more about their mission, check out their website http://www.freewheelchairmission.org/whywheelchairs

BridgePort Stumptown ORA Oatmeal Red Ale added to year-round portfolio

BridgePort Stumptown ORA Oatmeal Red Ale added to year-round portfolio

[Press Release:]

Brewers Use Four Different Hops to Create the New Full-Flavored Oatmeal Red Ale

(Portland, OR) – BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s original craft brewery, announces the release of their newest year-round brew offering, Stumptown Oatmeal Red Ale (ORA). Channeling old school brewing from the 1980s, BridgePort Brewers used four separate hop varietals, Nuggets, Sterling, Cascade and Mt. Hood, in six separate hop additions during the brewing process.

This brew marks the first production beer for BridgePort in which the brewers added hops in the whirlpool as well as the first time they have dry-hopped 2lbs/bbl. In addition to the intense dry-hopping, ORA contains a judicious amount of flaked oatmeal, caramel malt, a specialty malt called Red-X, as well as another specialty malt, Midnight Wheat. The combination of these ingredients created a beer with a unique red hue and smooth mouthfeel.

“Everyone in the brewery is excited about this new addition to our family of beers,” states Jeff Edgerton, brewmaster at BridgePort Brewing. “This unique dry-hopped Oatmeal Red Ale really showcases the care and precision that went into brewing it. Anyone who enjoys full-flavored red ales will certainly want to try this one out.”

Coronado Brewing Company Celebrates Winter with Two Limited Edition Seasonals

Coronado Brewing Company Celebrates Winter with Two Limited Edition Seasonals

Winter is coming, and the crew at Coronado Brewing Company is preparing for the frosty San Diego winter with the release of two limited-edition seasonals. The company is debuting a new winter seasonal 6-pack, Snowy Plover Winter IPA, and bringing back an old favorite, Stupid Stout Imperial Stout. “While we don’t get extreme winters here in San Diego, we do appreciate a good winter warmer,” says Ryan Brooks, Brewmaster, Coronado Brewing Company. “We’re excited to introduce our take on a winter IPA, and we know fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Stupid Stout.”

Named for the endangered local shorebirds, Snowy Plover is a classic West Coast IPA brewed with additional caramel malts for a red hue and richer malt profile. The beer is medium-bodied, 6% ABV, and bursting with bright pine and citrus notes from copious amounts of Simcoe, Centennial, and Chinook hops. Snowy Plover’s rich malt profile stands up to the assertive hoppiness and makes it an excellent pairing with a wide variety of holiday foods, including roasted turkey, stuffing, and grilled meats. “Snowy Plover is the perfect holiday celebration beer,” says Brooks. “It has a ton of hop flavor and the caramel malts make it extremely balanced. It’s a great go-to option for holiday gatherings.” Snowy Plover is available in six-packs, 22oz bottles, and on draft.

The company is also releasing its much anticipated Stupid Stout Imperial Stout. “This is one of my favorite beers because it’s so complex and I love to see how it evolves over time,” says Brooks. “When the beer is fresh, it has ton of coffee notes with a moderate amount of hoppiness. Over time, the hops give way to smooth espresso and cocoa notes,” says Brooks. Stupid Stout is a true winter warmer at 9.0% ABV, with a smooth, roasty finish. The beer is an excellent pairing with grilled steaks and a wide variety of desserts, including chocolate cakes, crème brulee, and tiramisu. Stupid Stout Imperial Stout is available in 22oz bottles and on draft.

Snowy Plover Label Copy:

Like the San Diego shorebird flying in and out of the waves, you too will keep coming back for more of this hardy winter IPA. Medium-bodied and slightly red in color from the use of caramel malts, this IPA is filled with bright pine and citrus notes, balanced by a firm malt backbone.

Redhook Winterhook Dark Ale returns for 32nd winter season

Redhook Winterhook Dark Ale returns for 32nd winter season

[Press Release:]

The legendary winter ale, brewed since 1984, features amped up hop profile in 2016

(Seattle, WA) – Redhook Brewery is celebrating the arrival of the winter season with the release of Winterhook, the brewery’s award-winning dark ale. Brewed annually since 1984, Winterhook won the bronze medal at the 2012 Great American Beer Festival in the American-Style Amber/Red Ale category and continues to be a Redhook favorite. Perfect for cooler months, this legendary brew keeps it fresh with a new recipe every year. This year’s version, the 32nd incarnation of Winterhook, boasts a trio of hops that make for a hoppier version of the winter favorite.

“We’re very happy with the 2016 version of Winterhook,” said Nick Crandall, lead innovation brewer at Redhook Brewery. “In addition to a normal dose of Munich malt, we amped up the hop profile, with the addition of Simcoe, Centennial and Chinook hops, a perfect balance of malts and hops.”

Beer fans can expect the Simcoe-forward hoppy ale, which is 6 percent ABV, to have hints of caramel along with a hop-forward taste. Winterhook will be available on draught, in 6 packs, 12 packs, and the Redhook variety 12 pack nationally, wherever Redhook beers are sold. Cape May Brewing Company Sponsors World-class Exit Zero International Jazz Festival this November

Cape May Brewing Company Sponsors World-class Exit Zero International Jazz Festival this November

Cape May, NJ– Cape May Brewing Company is pleased to once again act as the exclusive beer sponsor for the premiere jazz festival of the Jersey Shore, the Exit Zero Jazz Festival, running Friday, November 11th through the 13th.

“The Exit Zero Jazz Festival is just one of the many things that makes Cape May the best of the Jersey Shore,” says Ryan Krill, co-founder and president of Cape May Brewing Company. “We’re thrilled to sign on as a sponsor for the fourth year in a row.”

As part of their sponsorship, Cape May Brewing Company has crafted the official beer of the fall Jazz Fest: King Porter Stomp. Named for the classic jazz standard by Jelly Roll Morton, this assertive beer is brewed with five different malts in the base and a smooth chocolate presence, creating a brew as adventurous as some of the acts at this year’s festival.

For the first time, Cape May Brewing Company will be bottling King Porter Stomp. Inspired by the best of the 20s Jazz Age, the bottle design is as audacious as the brew inside.

King Porter Stomp will be poured at all of the venues of the festival — including at Cabanas Beach Bar and Grill, home of the official Cape May Brewing Company Stage. There, on Friday, you’ll see Philadelphia Funk Authority — one of the Philly area’s premiere dance and party bands. On Saturday, you’ll be able to catch Jon Regan, direct from his residence at The Roxy in New York City, the Philadelphia Inquirer called him “a master of smart, sturdily melodic pop with some rootsy shades – a cross between, say, Billy Joel and Randy Newman.” Davina and the Vagabonds will be there Saturday — Davina Sower’s voice has been compared to Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, and Betty Boop, while the Vagabonds bring edgy nostalgia to older generations and fresh new music to younger ears. On Saturday and Sunday,  you’ll watch Red Baraat, whom NPR called “the best party band in years.”
